News flash....The near record warmth in January followed by more of the same crazy warm February weather has told the Peaches and Plums and Apricots to let loose and flower. The trees politely complied and poof, we have full blown flowers in February!!! What were they thinking? Ohhhhhh, they don't have brains. They simply respond to their environment. Whatever. The fact is, flowers in full bloom this time of year will most likely be a waste of effort due to expected freeze events. That leaves the question to be, "How many flowers will be lost some or all???" Don't know yet............but everyone says "Hasn't the weather been pleasant?'
So I'm considering "How do I fight this monster?" is it spending money on frost protection with flying helicopters over the tree tops or burning fossil fuels to save a crop? Sounds like a lose-lose situation in which I'll lose. Yikes!!
I love farming. I really do. I love these sorts of challenges and the rewards of harvest. I do need a few victories however. We'll have to wait and see what this years' round one brings...............
